Sarin is the founding Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) New Delhi — South Asia's premier liver and biliary referral centre — with 42 years of clinical experience and the largest reported series of patients with liver failure and portal hypertension globally. He trained at Maulana Azad Medical College and AIIMS New Delhi (DM Gastroenterology), and previously served as Professor & Head of Gastroenterology at G. B. Pant Hospital before founding ILBS in 2010. A Padma Bhushan (2023) and Padma Shri laureate, B. C. Roy Awardee, and past President of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), he has authored 1,000+ peer-reviewed publications and the APASL guidelines on acute-on-chronic liver failure that are now used worldwide.
