Medical Treatment in India for Nigerian Patients
Specialist review, hospital matching, medical visa support and on-ground coordination for Nigerian patients travelling to India for treatment.
Nigerians are among the most active medical travellers to India. The corridor is well established: several thousand Nigerian patients travel to India each year for specialist care that is either unavailable locally or where waiting time or cost make India the practical alternative. Conditions that most commonly prompt the journey include end-stage liver disease requiring transplant, haematological cancers, advanced cardiac disease, and renal failure. India offers JCI and NABH-accredited hospitals with specialist teams, modern imaging and surgical infrastructure, and costs that are typically 60 to 80 percent lower than equivalent care in the United Kingdom or the United States. Livance coordinates the process end to end, from the initial specialist review to hospital matching, medical visa support, and on-ground coordination in India.
Why Nigerian patients choose India for treatment
Specialist capacity
India has established liver transplant, oncology, and cardiac surgery programmes that are fully accessible to international patients without the waiting lists common in Western health systems.
Cost
Treatment costs in India are typically 60 to 80 percent lower than in the UK, US, or comparable private care in West Africa, with transparent package pricing before any travel commitment.
Language
English is the working language across India's major hospitals. Medical reports, consent documents, discharge summaries, and all patient communication are conducted in English.
Established corridor
Nigeria to India is one of the busiest medical travel corridors from West Africa. Indian hospitals have dedicated international patient departments experienced in Nigerian patient logistics.

Visa and travel
Medical visa for Nigerian patients
Nigerian passport holders must apply for an Indian medical visa through the Indian High Commission in Abuja or the Indian Consulate in Lagos. Nigerian nationals are not eligible for the Indian e-Visa for medical purposes. Required documents include a valid passport, completed visa application form, recent photographs, a hospital invitation letter (provided by Livance), and medical documents supporting the purpose of visit. Processing is typically 3 to 7 working days. Attendant visas for one or two accompanying family members can be applied for at the same time.
Flights from Nigeria
Direct and connecting flights operate from Lagos (LOS) and Abuja (ABV) to Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), and Hyderabad (HYD). Ethiopian Airlines, Air Arabia, Oman Air, and Emirates operate commonly used routes. Travel time from Lagos to Delhi is approximately 10 to 12 hours with one connection.
Coordinator support
Livance patient coordinators have supported Nigerian families travelling to India for transplant, oncology, and cardiac procedures. The team is familiar with the Nigerian visa process and can coordinate airport transfers, accommodation near the treating hospital, and daily logistics support during the treatment period.
