Dr. Naresh Trehan is one of India's most decorated cardiac surgeons, having personally performed over 48,000 open-heart operations across a five-decade career. As Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon at Medanta — The Medicity, he leads one of South Asia's largest cardiac programmes. Trained at King George's Medical College (Lucknow) and board-certified in both General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery in the United States, Dr. Trehan practised at NYU Medical Center for 15 years before returning to India to found Escorts Heart Institute in 1988 and later Medanta in 2009. A Padma Shri (1991) and Padma Bhushan (2001) laureate, he has served as personal surgeon to the President of India since 1991 and received the Dr. B. C. Roy Award and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for his contributions to Indian healthcare.
