Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty is the founder and chairman of Narayana Health — one of Asia's largest hospital chains with 24 facilities — and has personally performed over 15,000 cardiac operations while the network surpasses 120,000 procedures. He performed India's first neonatal cardiac surgery in 1992, on a 21-day-old infant. Trained at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and at Guy's Hospital London under the West Midlands Cardiothoracic Rotation, he served as personal cardiac physician to Mother Teresa and pioneered paediatric cardiac surgery in India across a decade at B. M. Birla Heart Centre, Kolkata before founding Narayana in 2001. A Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2012) awardee, Dr. Shetty is widely regarded as the architect of affordable cardiac care in India — his low-cost, high-volume model has been profiled by Harvard Business School and the Wall Street Journal, and he currently chairs the Board of Governors of IIM Bangalore.
